BEDFORDSHIRE SQUASH RACKETS ASSOCIATION LEAGUE RULES

Revised Edition – Effective 1st September 2010

 

1)                  ENTRY TO BEDS SRA LEAGUES

 

a)         Clubs wishing to take part in the leagues must be affiliated to:-

 

ENGLAND SQUASH AND RACKET BALL ASSOCIATION

National Squash Centre, Rowsley Street, Manchester, M11 3FF

 

b)         Clubs must send a representative to the Beds SRA AGM meeting at the end of the preceding season.

c)         Teams must appoint a captain who is responsible for the administration of the team. The captain must be registered with the League by September 1st or date advised

 

 

 2)                  PLAYER REGISTRATION

 

a)         Team captains must register their players in the correct playing order, referred to as “order of merit”.

b)         The registrations must be submitted to the League Secretary by September 1st or date advised

FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN THE DEDUCTION OF 10 POINTS FROM THE OFFENDING TEAM.

 THE PENALTY MAY CONTINUE TO APPLY FOR EACH MATCH UNTIL THE REGISTRATIONS ARE SUBMITTED.

c)         Additional players may be registered during the season, up to a maximum of twelve per team; written notification must be given a minimum of 24 hours prior to playing.

HOWEVER, NO TEAM CAN INTRODUCE A NEW PLAYER IN THE LAST FOUR MATCHES OF THE SEASON.

d)         Application may be made to change the order of merit but only during the mid-season break and at no other time. A written submission must be made to the League Secretary stating genuine reasons for the proposed changes. Permission may be declined if it is believed the changes are “tactical”.

e)         Players can only register with one team in the league. Where a club has two or more teams, players from the lower team or teams may “play up”, but not down and on the third occasion the player becomes tied to the higher team, subject to Rule 3c. For the avoidance of doubt the one other team must belong to the same club, players playing up must compete at the bottom of the order of merit for that team.

UNREGISTERED PLAYERS RISK HEAVY PENALTIES:

ALL POINTS FROM THE OFFENDING PLAYER DOWN THE ORDER OF MERIT WILL BE FORFEITED AND AWARDED TO THE OPOSITION 3 – 0.

 

 

3)         PLAYER ELIGIBILITY

 

a)         All players must be bona fide members of the club they are representing.

b)         No player may play for more than one club during the season.

c)         Where a club has two or more teams in the same division then no player may play in more than one of those teams.

                        INELIGIBLE PLAYERS RISK HEAVY PENALTIES:

ALL THE POINTS FROM THE OFFENDING PLAYER DOWN WILL BE FORFEITED AND AWARDED TO THE OPOSITION 3 – 0.

 

 

4)         MATCHES

 

a)         Captains must exchange their team orders prior to the start of the match.

b)         Match start times are published on the fixtures web site and must be strictly adhered to, teams causing a late start resulting in a late or unfinished match will be penalised.

            Home team captains must contact their opposition captain to emphasise the match details with 24 hour prior notice.   

c)         Matches are played in accordance with the current rules as laid down by the World Squash Federation (1st April 2009). Individual captains should obtain a copy of these rules from;

 c)        Matches must be played during the week designated by the fixtures programme.

Re-arrangement of matches is not permissible.

In a period of sustained weather disruption the committee will rule as it sees fit.

d)         Match results from both team captains must be entered onto the website if possible or in the event of difficulties sent to the League secretary within 24 hours of the match being played by email.

5)         SCORING

 

a)         Each game is played under the points per rally system (PAR) every game won scores a point to that team. A bonus of 3 points is awarded to the team winning the most rubbers.

b)         Any team without 5 players (a minimum of 3 players constitutes a team) shall forfeit the points of the missing players. i.e. the rubber (s) awarded to the other team 3 – 0.

TEAMS WITHOUT 5 PLAYERS MUST FIELD THE REMAINING PLAYERS AT THE HIGHEST AVAILABLE POSITION IN THE ORDER OF MERIT.

 

c)         The league will be decided by the total points scored. In the event of a tie the winner will be the team having won the most matches. If still tied the winner will be the team with the least number of points against. If still tied there will be a play off between the two teams at a neutral venue and a mutually agreed date.

d)         Walkovers may be claimed against teams who fail to appear for a fixture or who cancel with less than 10 days prior notice.

e)         Teams claiming walkovers, or other infringements, must put their case in writing via email within 3 days of the scheduled date of the match.

f)         Walkovers, where awarded, will be scored 15 – 0.

           

 

6)         REFEREEING AND MARKING

 

a)         The visiting team are entitled to mark two games if they so desire and in any event must mark two games if requested by the home captain.

b)         Each team ideally will have one player registered who is either a S R A registered referee or is a Beds S R A club grade referee or one player who has sat the Beds S R A club grade referee exam.

 

 

 

7)         GENERAL

 

a)         It is the home team’s responsibility to organise and pay for the visiting team’s court fees, food and refreshment, unless mutually agreed.

b)         It is the home team’s responsibility to supply the new match balls.

           

 

8)         COMPLAINTS AND DISPUTES

 

a)         Complaints will be heard and disputes decided upon by the League Secretary with reference to these rules.

b)         Captains have the right of appeal to the League sub-committee and are requested to put their appeal in writing.

c)         The League sub-committee may refer to the Full Committee whose decision will be final.

           

 

NOT WITHSTANDING ANYTHING CONTAINED WITHIN THESE RULES ALL

MATTERS WILL BE CONSIDERED AND JUDGED ON THE BASIS OF THAT WHICH

 IS FAIR AND REASONABLE FOR ALL CONCERNED.
